Poor folk: George Osborne feels your pain

Groceries are the new politics. As the residents of No 10 enjoy Ocado deliveries, Her Majesty's Opposition would like voters to know that they are in touch with the economic woes of the man on the Clapham Omnibus.

Why, it's got so bad that even poor George Osborne is feeling the pain.

"Of course, like everyone we are looking at the family budget and seeing what we can save. I have a Tesco loyalty card in my wallet," Mr Osborne tells a friendly newspaper,  presumably while choking back tears.

That's right, folks, times are now so tough that even the children of baronets like the shadow chancellor (est. personal net worth: £4 million. Thanks, papa.) are having to shop in lesser supermarkets. Truly, Gordon Brown should hang his head in shame.
