If you like the great outdoors you’ll be right at home in the Territory.

We love to get out and about. Whether it's a sunset picnic close to the city or an extended trek through the wilderness, the Territory is renowned for its wide open spaces. People come from all over the world to explore the Territory. When you live here you literally have it on your doorstep...

World famous parks
The world-heritage listed Kakadu National Park covers nearly 20,000 square kilometres and features a matchless array flora and fauna as well as a rich Aboriginal culture and heritage. Similarly, Uluru-kata Tjuta (Ayers Rock and The Olgas) attract visitors from all over the world to marvel at its majesty and cultural solemnity.

Other Parks and Reserves
The Territory has hundreds of parks, reserves and sanctuaries ranging in size from less than one hectare to thousands. All cities and towns are serviced by well-maintained parks, play areas, ovals and bike and walking tracks.

Major parks in the Top End include Litchfield, Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge), Gregory and Garig Gunak Barlu. Closer to town are family-oriented parks such as Berry Springs and Howard Springs, Charles Darwin National Park and East Point Reserve.

In the Centre, Watarrka (Kings Canyon), the West MacDonnell Ranges and the Devils Marbles showcase the stunning landscapes of Central Australia.

Following a historic agreement between the Northern Territory Government and traditional Aboriginal owners in the Territory, visitors to these areas will be able experience the unique relationship that the local tribes have with the land.
