American Idol season 9: Vote results for April 14, 2010

Over 34 million votes came into American Idol this week – the highest amount this season. With no saves left by the judges, American Idol season 9 is heating up.  The vote results for April 14, 2010 didn’t come with any surprises.  Because the judges saved Michael Lynche last week, two performers were sent home this week.

Andrew Garcia was the first one announced that he would be leaving.  At the same time, Casey James and Aaron Kelly were told that they were safe.  Andrew going home was not a surprise but Aaron being safe was a surprise.  Why this boy hangs on each week is completely unbelievable.  Only thing that makes sense is there must be a lot of 10 year old girls with too much time on their hands and are voting for this kid each week.

The next three announced as safe were Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus, and Lee DeWyze which left Tim Urban, Michael Lynche and Katie Stevens.  And when it was all said and done, Katie Stevens was the second person to be voted off. My predictions for tonight’s bottom three were Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia and Aaron Kelly so two of my three choices were sent home.

This week the American Idol contestants performed to their versions of Elvis Presley songs.  Some of the final 9 were outstanding while others were highly lacking.

Although Michael Lynche was not the worst performer last week, he was the one chosen by voters to go and then he was ultimately saved by the judges.  This week, Big Mike shined with his version of “In the Ghetto”.  For me, his performance was unforgettable and truly worth being saved for another week.

Casey James and Crystal Bowersox gave their typical perfect performances but are starting to become boring.  Unless they really bring something else to the show, these two may not become the stars that everyone has been predicting.

My favorite performance this week came from Tim Urban.  His chosen song was “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and he not only performed the song, he owned it.  His voice was perfect for the tune and I agreed with Kara when she said it was her “favorite Tim performance”.

Siobhan Magnus can truly sing but she needs to quit screwing up the songs she chooses.  Her version of “Suspicious Minds” was a mess and I couldn’t wait for her to finish.  However, her performance wasn’t worth going home for since there were several other performances worse than hers.

With only 7 American Idol performers left, each week will become harder for the contestants.  And these 7 are all competitors and have a lot to offer.  It will be interesting to see if any of those left will try something new to make them stand out over the rest.
