Quiet Chaos
The FIT Couture Council's Pre-Fashion Week Party
Guests attending FIT's annual Couture Council bash in Central Park last night were greeted by protesters waving "Boycott the Boathouse" posters. "I don't know what they're upset about, but more power to them," said noted activist and Real Housewives of New York City cast member Alex McCord. "This is America, and I always support when people exercise their rights." The ex-Boathouse employees, in fact, were making their case for the unfair labor practices, sexual harassment, and discrimination charges the famed restaurant is currently under fire for.
Inside, as Bill Cunningham snapped pics of silk jumpsuits and leopard-print pants and designers discussed the upcoming shows—"it's quiet chaos, as always," said Maria Cornejo—one partygoer had an agenda of his own. Thakoon Panichgul has released a limited-edition Masai plaid scarf. "We just launched them today on the site—please, please buy one," he said. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to charity, funding hunger relief efforts for children in Africa.
