Performance in Practice (PIP)
To facilitate continued clinical competence, the ABMS and all its specialty boards, including ABPN, are implementing Maintenance of Certification. In 2013 the ABPN will require a review of one’s own practice, a PIP clinical module.

ABPN approved PIP modules are included with your subscription to FOCUS: Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry.

Two sample PIP tools on MDD and PTSD, based on recommendations of the APA’s Practice Guideline, are presented here. To provide the APA with valuable feedback on the modules and earn 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™  for FREE, please click here.

Support for Maintenance of Certification
APA provides resources for initial and maintenance of certification in psychiatry.

UPDATE:

The Board of Trustees approved a revision of the CME requirement for members of the APA. Beginning January 1, 2010, completing an APA Certificate of CME Compliance is an option for members and not a member requirement.

To receive a three-year certificate, members in compliance with APA will complete a total of 150 hours of CME activities within a 3-year period. At least 90 hours must be in Category 1 Credit™. The remaining 60 hours may be in either Category 1 Credit™ or Category 2 Credit™, encompassing all other activities such as medical teaching, research, reading of professional literature, self-study projects, and consultation. For further questions or information, please see the AMA's website or contact educme@psych.org.
