Norient, Soudscapes Project

norient focuses on independent musicians and music scenes all over the world. As an international platform it aims to understand and show the many and often contradictory faces of cultural globalization through articles about music, urbanism, localisation and globalisation processes, written by authors from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the US. norient also produces and co-produces larger and smaller projects and events.

Non-fiction

Being a convinced atheist I am still sympathizing with the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. And I am watching every progress towards their full acknowledgement with joy. Check their blog to see the latest progresses they make. I just read there that their book of gospels was filed in Toronto library under non-fiction. Cool!

"Collect, manage, and cite your research sources"

Willem pointed me to a tiny browser embedded tool named Zotero.
To the online Tutorial. Word processor plug-in.

'Zotero, a break-through project out of George Mason University, promises to make digital metadata much more a part of the daily lives of scholars. Zotero is a free, open source, citation tool that plugs into the Firefox browser. It scans every webpage you view, ranging from weblog posts to articles in JSTOR, and looks for metadata. It uses this metadata to automatically capture bibliographic reference information. That saves researchers a great deal of tedium and reduces annoying typographic errors in building up their reference databases.' Archaeologist Eric Kansa

'But speaking of peace, I have discovered the solution to world peace. It is called Zotero. This little Firefox plugin will streamline the management of research like never before. I have been looking for a tool like this for ages now, and it beats renaming PDF documents to somehow reflect the year, title and authors in one foul swoop. The ability to tag documents also takes away the limitations imposed by dropping said document into a single directory, where it should actually appear at three different spots in your research category hierarchy. I bet that the people who pushed so hard for multi-disciplinary research hardly took into account the impact of ordering references by mere mortals (i.e. post-graduate students).' Mass Mentality

WTO Announces Formalized Slavery Market For Africa

"At a Wharton Business School conference on business in Africa that took place on Saturday, November 11, the WTO announced the creation of a new, much-improved form of slavery for the parts of Africa that have been hardest hit by the 500-year history of free trade there" [more].

Maybe you haven't heard about it, yet. See a video snippet of a similar speech here.

Another great idea is the recycling of McDonald's burgers and re-selling them to the third world [more].

See the full movie there.
