Christopher Hatton was born in Northamptonshire in about 1540. Favoured by Elizabeth I he was knighted and made Vice Chamberlain of the Household and Privy Councillor.

Hatton was involved in the investigation of the plot led by Anthony Babington and afterwards advocated the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots. Later he was appointed Lord Chancellor.

Sir Christopher Hatton died in 1591.
