On November 22, 2011 it was decided that the products produced by Apple Inc., did not in any way infringe on the patents of S3 Graphics, a newly acquired HTC Corp subsidiary. The decision came down from the United States International Trade Commission (ITC). This no doubt was a serious setback for HTC which is one of the main makers of Android sets. It is however very good news for Apple, who is looking to for a greater share of the marketplace.

One thing is a fact: when Steve Jobs stands up and talks about the world of Apple, it’s with a passion that is rarely matched. Better still, Jobs has never dropped the ball. He’s always been at the top of the game, and with his age the opposite of what often happens to older people has occurred: he has fallen even more in love with new-school technology. In turn we have come to love what Mr Jobs says, and consider him as the official word on all things technological.

From office companies which handle secure shredding to mega-companies which rely on speedy computer interfaces, Apple have become the only choice. Why is this? There are a few reasons, so let’s list them below:

Apple pump money into research facilities which look to a brighter future, one where everything is even better than what it is now

  1. Apple are always stylish. While style isn’t everything, Apple have found the ideal compromise between what looks good and what is most practical.

  2. Apple are leaders: nobody can argue with this one – it’s something which has been obvious for a very long time and looks set to remain the case, even if Steve Jobs is stepping down from his up-until-now very public role; in short, Apple decide the future and other companies copy it. Which makes it all the more impressive that Apple have kept their cool and have generally left other companies to their own devices.

  3. Apple aren’t just about making money: this is a controversial one, but nevertheless that’s our opinion – while the form are obviously in it for the money, they are also in it for the innovation. Every single year, Apple pump money into research facilities which look to a brighter future, one where everything is even better than what it is now. The fact of the matter is this: the company will not stop – they’re addicted to the idea of making technological progress, and so long as they keep doing that they will have many happy fans.

  4. Apple back their devices up with help and information which many companies don’t bother to do: this is extremely helpful, and something which others would do well to emulate.

  5. Apple put what they know in the public eye: although they have a habit of keeping some things under wraps for what seems like a lifetime, they are very much a company who keep themselves in the public eye. This keeps things exciting, because the consumer gets to follow the progress of each invention. No wonder that by the time they’re available, we’re all camped outside the Apple store to get our hands on the next big thing.

Steve Jobs Steps Down

An era in Apple is about to come to an end. The long lasting leadership of Steve Jobs, one of the main figures in the history of Apple, is now gone. He would be remembered as the person who took Apple to being the second most valuable world company, with his innovations in technology, with the development of the revolutionary iPhone, with the invention of the first tablet technology ever applied to consumer devices and with driving the company to Continue reading »

Ever since the BBC reported on Apple’s iCloud service back in May, naysayers began to speculate on whether it would rival similar storage services like the ones provided by Dropbox. Apple enthusiasts needn’t have worried though as since the launch of the iCloud, the service has been warmly reviewed. iCloud is quick to access and very user friendly. As ease of use has always been Apple’s point of difference, it’s comforting to see that the critics have been proven wrong.

With the iPhone and iPad now mainstays in the Smartphone and Tablet markets, the iCloud allows all Apple users to finally silence the detractors. It seems everyone likes to have a pop at Apple every now and then. Just like it is fashionable to hate Manchester United so too is it fashionable to hate Apple. The iCloud has been pored over, tested, scanned, then re-tested and so far the worst critics have to say about it is that it doesn’t stream music in the way people were hoping.

Whilst it’s true that you cannot stream music directly onto any of your devices – you have to download the music separately to iTunes – iCloud does sync up all your music across how ever many devices you have. Google and Amazon breathed a sigh of relief at this news. The good thing is that most of your music doesn’t require storing: iCloud will recognise it and give you access to the iTunes version. This saves you the hassle of storing it yourself. Critics have pointed out that this is not the flexibility that users want and that Apple should provide. However as neither Google nor Amazon offer the flexibility that critics talk about it is frustrating to see Apple being singled out as the naughty one.

iCloud does more right then it does wrong. Able to hold all of your applications, iTunes music and other content, it also updates your calendars and contacts across all devices which is extremely useful. There is no management or synching required. However as always with Apple, when using the service abroad you will need to take into account the internet charges that could come into play. A standard Apple roaming fee can be avoided by changing your sim card when travelling. You only need get an adaptor for the iPhone 4 to ensure any sim is compatible and there is a brilliant roaming service available from other companies like abroadband. On this point it must be conceded that Apple has a way to go before offering their customers the best prices.

iCloud marks Apple’s investment in cloud based data storage and where Apple go, others will follow.

The TV is therefore perfect for adorning one’s drawing room in place of the widescreen TV stand as well as being fitted amongst a crowd of Continue reading »
