Football: A weekend of ‘super 7s.’

On ‘a weekend of 7s’ an uncertain looking Glacis Utd. of the GFA 1st. Division just about beat Britannia of the 2nd. Div. in a ‘seven goal thriller’ - 4-3 after extra -time to win through to the final of this year’s Rock Cup. There were also 7 goals in the following semi-final but all of these were scored by Div.1 ‘champions elect’ Lincoln against Sporting Club of the 2nd. Div. It will be a Glacis v Lincoln final on Friday 15th. April - the two have drawn all three league encounters so far this season.
The other 7? That was the number of failed penalties, out of 10, before Gibraltar Utd. Ladies got the better of Manchester Chesterton to win Sunday’s GFA Ladies Challenge trophy 3-2, after a 1-1 draw at full -time and a goalless extra -time.
 

Squash: Macarrow turns tables on Molina

The GSA's staging of their leg of the Andalucian squash circuit over the weekend was another great success - they love coming to the Rock and its friendly club atmosphere. Over the years the GSA has entertained many leading players from the Costa and farther afield and Irishman Neil Macarrow, 20 years on the Coast, is the latest to thrill the squash cognescenti.
This year he gained revenge on Francis Molina who beat him in last year's Final.
This year, nine of Gib.'s most dedicated 'squashers' entered the 32 of the Main event and Adam Newman made it through to the 2nd. round where he faced the much smaller, most agile and powerful Macarrow. Steven Shacaluga went out in the quarters to Marcus Hall.
The 1st. round losers were relegated into the A , and then B, competitions which is where Gib. enjoyed its success with Christian navas and Colin Davis contesting the A final.
 

Billiards & Snooker: The GBSA Team Snooker league; Round 11

Out in the harbour, in the new extended building site, the Med Rowing Club team was beaten by Piranha Designs.com one frame to four. First up Peter Buttigieg was beaten by the designer's man-of-the-match, Francis Becerra, 33 points to 84 and Dion Mansfield was just beaten by Lawrence Sisarello 44 points to 52. Henry Vinet lost to Sean Galligan in a very tight captain's game b7 34 points to 44 and Wilfred Smart went down to Nicky Correa by 15 points to 75. In the last frame the Med's star man, Chris Nuñez beat Jeremy Gomez 62 points to 24 to gain a good point for his team and so avoid the whitewash! A very good five points for the designers.

Men: Justin Broton (GDA President) Francisco Ruiz (Finalist), Hon Edwin Reyes (Minister for Sports),  Andrew Guilding (Winner), Darren Olivero (GDA Secretary).

The "Kronenbourg 1664" Gibraltar Open VIII attracted over 100 players last Saturday to the splendid setting of the JMH annexe set -up by the dedicated band of GDA committee.
Thirty six local dartsmen took part with the best results registered by best players being Alex Nuñez (youth) who lost in the stage final and Dyson Parody who won 'his board' and got through to the last 8.

Shooting: Heloise and Albert off to Germany

Heloise Mañasco and Albert Buhagiar will be representing Gibraltar at the ISAS International shoot held in Dortmund, Germany from the tomorrow until Friday.
 

Rowing: CRC win three, lead Garbarino

The Calpe RC rowers lengthened their lead in the season's championship for Garbarino Trophy, 128 - 112 , by winning three of last Saturday morning's races , but Mediterranean enjoyed their moment of glory winning the Senior men's race for the Codali CT in a driving finish.
The first three races were over the One Mile course from The Island, where there were problems with the positioning of the security buoys, to the North Mole finish.
First race up was the Stagnetto CC for female crews with the big battle between CRC1 and MRC 1 with Calpe sending out a second crew of youngsters.

Basketball: ANOTHER EXCELLENT WEEKEND

Another excellent weekend for the various GABBA teams in Cadiz League competitions, highlighted by brilliant individual performances from teenagers Jamie Sercombe, Derek Aston-Fox and Adrian Bado, even though the latter ended up on the only losing side.

DARTS: GDA LEAGUE TREBLES 2010/11

The trio; Dylan Duo, Justin Broton & Henry Zapata managed to secure the trebles title for a 2nd successive year.
Although the event lacked the usual number of members nevertheless strong teams were present. The first finalists; Dylan Duo, Justin Broton & Henry Zapata had a tough 1st rounder against Francis Taylor, George Ramos & Denis Sheehan that they managed to escape from.
 

FOOTBALL: Gib.'s 3-goal victory thrills crowd

GFA 'Bula's boys' blew away the 'professionals' of Faroe Islands with a late
3-goal burst of scintillating soccer which could stand as the 'greatest-ever'.
And what goals!
For an hour, in the pouring rain, the GFA had stood firm against their physically -stronger visitors from the north, in final preparations for their next foray into the Euro-nations.

More ‘Golden’ success for GNA U17: The GNA U17s returned to the Rock yesterday with ‘Golden’ smiles after 4 wins in the Eurochamps in Dublin over the weekend.
