STRIKING nurses have taken action in Prahran.
Nurses at The Alfred hospital have followed their colleagues at other Melbourne hospitals by walking off the job today to protest patient ratios.
The nurses joined the industrial action from 8am this morning with twice daily stoppages of up to four hours.
Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said union members would not back down until the government listened to their concerns.
She called on Premier Ted Baillieu to allow an independent umpire to resolve the dispute.
