The Socialist Group in the European Parliament today expressed its deep concern over language used by the leader of the main opposition party in Bulgaria, GERB, a member of the European People's Party.
Said Group vice-president Jan Marinus Wiersma: "Boyko Borisov's latest statements refer to the Turks, Roma and pensioners in Bulgaria as "bad human material". This comes after a series of discriminatory statements and threats against Turks and against homosexual people. This outlines a political platform resembling the Nazi platform on purity of the nation.
"Since every statement of this sort is followed by excuses and then followed by another worrying statement, we ask the EPP to take appropriate measures or to distance itself from a party that has already crossed the invisible line between right wing populism and extremism."
