it's a pulitzer party

That roar of applause bursting from the 435 newsroom? When the Pulitzer winners list dropped, Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich sat atop the Commentary category, "...for her wide range of down-to-earth columns that reflect the character and capture the culture of her famed city." In addition to the win, a half dozen also- familiar names made the finalists' cut: from Chicago, Gary Marx and David Jackson (Investigative Reporting), and from Los Angeles, Steve Lopez (Commentary), Carolyn Cole and Brian van der Brug (Breaking News Photography), and Francine Orr (Feature Photography). Congratulations all.

in times of need

Partnering with the Salvation Army, Indianapolis' Fox 59 reached out to viewers for help supporting survivors of the area's recent deadly tornado outbreak. In response, the station raised more than $236,000 in a single day. Almost all of that came from the generous donations of individuals. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said, "There's an awful lot going on in the state, but I don't know anybody that's done any more or more quickly than you guys have." One hundred percent of the money raised will go to families in need.

Good Dog! It's more than a continuation of the headline. It's also one of the first offerings from Tribune Media Service's new line of eBooks (available through all the usual suspects). Collecting advice from animal behaviorist Steve Dale, Good Dog will soon be joined by Good Cat, which alongside three eMags, round out a freshman crop of downloadable content from TMS. Good Dog is off to a good start, too, having broken into Amazon's top 100 pet care eBooks and earned a five star reader review.
