Kenyan hip-hop group Camp Mulla have been nominated for Best African Act at the 2012 BET Awards. This news comes two days after a stellar performance in front of a worldwide audience at the Big Brother Africa reality TV Show in South Africa.
The “Addicted” singers, who’ve seen their fan base mushroom to unprecedented proportions in the last two years, will be up against Nigerian teen star Wizkid and newcomer Ice Prince. Mali’s Makobe is also up for a trophy along with South Africa’s Lira and Sarkodie from Ghana.
The BET Awards, a staple of African-American pop culture, recently introduced wider categories to expand their reach and give musicians of African origin an international platform. Last year, D’Banj and 2Face Idibia shared the awards.
