Many people I have talked to have no idea what Nepotism is and what problems it could cause. As you saw with the story about Cathey Mathis and what Nepotism did to literally cripple e911 services for Bedford County . Nepotism is hiring family members that are less qualified than others who could do the job more efficiently. The ramifications of the inept behavior and lack of expertise snowballs to the point of the absurd. But no-one outside of their family knows and the fear of losing their job or their family members’ position of authority. What happens can be catastrophic, financially, legally and physically for the citizens.
Get rid of Nepotism, What’s the hurry?
So, The commissioners knew this was on the agenda, Nepotism has been brought up multiple times in the past few years on a regular basis. So what is the hold up? Make a decision! It isn’t that hard…
According to the Times Gazette:
Bedford County Board of Commissioners’ rules and legislative committee deferred action Tuesday night on a proposed nepotism policy, so that it can be studied further and compared to other such policies.
More at Nepotism decision deferred – Shelbyville Times-Gazette
Most of the commissioners have known this has been an issue for a long time, or are some of them afraid the Good Old Boys are going to be mad. How about working with your constituents and fix this mess or are you guys/gals secured and controlled by Cronyism?
Cronyism to friends is Nepotism to family
Cronyism is another problem is this county, the definition is the partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. Let’s work on this Nepotism problem because nothing seems to happen to the people that ruin it for the rest.
