U.S. appeals ruling against military detention law
The ruling prevents the government from enforcing the part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which permits indefinite detention of those deemed to have supported al Qaeda, the Taliban or associated groups.

OPINION – The 2nd Circuit has upheld the dismissal of a putative class action suit brought by a group of former Xerox employees who allege the company illegally reneged on promises to provide lifetime health benefits to retirees, finding that the only plan at issue lacked any language that could be construed as such a pledge. OPINION – Husband and wife purchased a residence, but only husband was a party to the mortgage. When the bank foreclosed, they sought consistency between the deed and the mortgage and attempted to add wife’s name as a mortgagor. But the bank’s own evidence showed that the wife never intended to be a party to the mortgage. (N.Y.A.D. 1st Dep’t)
