NORTHLAKE — Volunteers and artists plan to celebrate creation with a mural at the Northlake Library.
“We wanted to bring art to a very visible place,” Librarian Raleigh Ocampo said. “One of our members is an artist. Last October, he had the idea of a large scale mural in the library lobby.”
That was Matthew Blaczoniere. He, his wife Lisa, an art school student named Maribel Lopez and Ocampo – whose bachelor’s degree is in art education – began creating drawings.
In June, the four plus a rotating group of volunteers began the mural in four panels. At least three times a week throughout the summer, the painters have come to the library to work on the mural.
“We were expecting to be done by August,” Ocampo said.
Now they expect to finish in September. When hung, the mural will be 5-by-15 feet.
The artists plan a reception from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. The public is invited.
The Northlake Public Library is located at 231 N. Wolf Road. For more information, call (708) 562-2301.
