Decades ago, I found a poem of his beginning "Jehovah buried,Satan dead," with the oddest bowdlerization, in an anthology of poetry. A line in the original read "when hate's a game and love's a fuck" but some editor had defucked it by Greek-alphabetizing it, so that it looked like Greek for who-knows-what. It was only in this millennium that I ran across the true version. Meanwhile I'd carried an odd, alternate-universe version of the poem in my memory, with the gristle-caught-in-the-teeth dissatisfaction of not completely "getting" it, my comprehension, ironically, fucked.

I am not sure if I thought it was "dirty", maybe "heed this warning, be terrified".
