Air Transportation and the Environment

Transport Canada works with its partners and stakeholders, including the general public, the aviation industry, other federal government departments, provinces, territories and municipalities, as well as international organizations to prevent and or reduce the adverse environmental impacts of air transportation operations.

Transport Canada supports the work of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to develop international standards and recommended practices for the reduction of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions from aviation sources. The department also participates in the work of the ICAO’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) concerning aircraft engine emissions, aircraft noise and land use planning.
