The Home Office is committed to opening up data in support of the move to greater government transparency, and ensuring information is published in line with public data principles.
Our committment
The department’s business plan includes an open data strategy which sets out how we will approach:
- big data: our large 'iconic' datasets such as those in www.police.uk
- my data: enabling the public to access their own data
- satisfaction and experience data: providing an insight into customer satisfaction with Home Office services and the customer experience
- creation of dynamic information markets: working with external stakeholders to maximise the use of public data
- improving the quality of data: building on work already carried out in the Home Office

Tax arrangements for off-payroll engagements
On 23 May 2012, the government published a review of the tax arrangements of public sector appointees. The review identified the number of off-payroll engagements worth more than £58,200 each year across government, and made recommendations to improve the tax transparency of these kind of arrangements.
