Project applications
The programme of work must be authorised in a project licence.
Completing the form
Applicants are strongly advised to contact their local Home Office inspector before starting to complete the form. Project licence applications often contain mistakes - please read our list of common failings to avoid making the same errors.
Project licence application form
The project licence application form states the legal basis for the information we require to assess an application. It is intended to minimise unnecessary bureaucracy without compromising animal welfare. We are developing an online application process which will integrate with the new form.
Amendments - Requests for changes to a project licence must be made using the application for change application form.
Examples - We are also providing some completed examples which indicate the amount and the level of detail that is needed.
The ARRIVE (Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments) guidelines are intended to improve the reporting of animal experiments.
