Diversity

We are committed to recruiting on merit after fair and open selection, and we welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

We operate within the guaranteed interview scheme for candidates with disabilities. By disability, we mean a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

More information is available on the Directgov website.

Many of our posts are suitable for people who wish to work flexibly, to job-share or to work part-time.

Checking eligibility

Please check the details in individual recruitment schemes concerning any nationality requirements. For core Home Office you must be a British Citizen, Commonwealth Citizen or a national of a state within the European Economic Area and Swiss nationals under the Swiss EU agreement.

You must have no restrictions on employment and there must be no time limit on your permitted stay in the UK. In addition you should normally have lived here continuously for the last three years.

All posts will require successful applicants to undergo security checks, and these can take some weeks, or even two months or more. If you are interested in what we do then you will appreciate the importance of doing this properly.

We welcome applications from individuals, but not approaches from recruitment agencies please.

If you are an IT professional seeking reinstatement to the Civil Service, wanting to come in on loan from another government department, or on secondment from a private sector company, then please email your CV with a covering letter to ITProfDev@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk, but please do not use this address to apply for specific vacancies, as these will be handled separately.
