What we're doing

Updated action plan

On 8 March 2012, to mark International Women's Day, we launched an updated version of the violence against women and girls action plan. It builds on the strategic vision, action plan and progress review to deliver an updated set of actions to take.

Strategic vision

In the strategic vision to end violence against women and girls, the government committed to providing central funding on a stable basis over the spending review period, giving the police the tools they need, spreading effective practice, and giving communities the information they need to hold government to account.

Action plan

The Call to end violence to women and girls action plan contained measures for central government to:

  • prevent violence from happening by challenging the attitudes and behaviours which foster it and intervening early where possible to prevent it
  • provide adequate levels of support where violence does occur
  • work in partnership to obtain the best outcome for victims and their families
  • take action to reduce the risk to women and girls who are victims of these crimes and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice

An action plan progress review was published in November 2011 to assess what we've achieved so far.
