Science and technology strategy

The strategy sets out our three-year plan to make the most of science and technology in support of the UK’s counter-terrorism work.

Modern technology is one of the underlying factors that drives the international terrorist threat. Using relevant science and technology is a key element in our response.

At the heart of the strategy is a new focus on clearly explaining our science and technology needs to industry and academia and developing strong partnerships with them to develop solutions.

Three objectives running through the strategy are framed to make counter-terrorist science as effective as possible:

  • identify emerging and future terrorist threats and anticipate technology they may use
  • communicate our key science and technology requirements to academia and industry so they can play a full part
  • strengthen international collaboration so we benefit by developing and sharing science and technology advances with our overseas partners
