Software Engineer, Back End – AOL Music

Being a software engineer is sort of like composing epic ballads. There are lots of bits and parts to manage and put together, but when they all come together, its music for your eyes. We’re looking for just that prodigy programmer who can hit all the right notes to join the AOL Music –Media Technology Team in our NYC office.  If you want to join a chart-topping brand where you can really make a difference, keep reading.

In this group, you’llharmonize with UI/Design teams, other development teams, product managers and business analysts to ensure successful implementation and integration of dashboards and interactive web applications. You’ll orchestrate in an Agile/SCRUM environment to convert specifications and requirements into functional web pages and work with the back-end developers to create database-driven templates for functional web pages. You’ll also need a solid understanding of our best practices for delivering fast-loading websites and the ability to stay “composed” with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • YES!I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
  • YES!I have been a spectacular software engineer for at least 2 to 6 years!
  • YES!I have knowledge and expertise in the following:
    • Core Java and J2EE/POJO-with-a-reason with latest Java 6,7
    • Basic architectural patterns of Webservices
    • Design patterns, why you're already doing some (even if you didn't know it) and why you should use some others
    • Webservices and REST APIs and has feelings as why you should/shouldn't
    • Java Multithreading using concurrent packages experience
    • Various data storage systems
    • Databases like MySQL or any other. Bonus if you have a solid feeling as why you'd use a Relational DB here and a non-relational DB/NoSQL/data-store there.
    • Redis or any caching tool experience
    • Unit, Load, and performance tests experience
    • Tomcat 6,7, Apache
    • Jmeter and other Java monitoring tools
    • Ingestion jobs using mainly Java core or Mule+ experience
    • Eclipse or other IDE or can verbalize good reasons not to!
    • XML, JSON parsers
    • Content management and handling multiple types of data structures experience.
    • HTTP core knowledge
      Basic html, JS, CSS and ability to build pages for tools (such as using Spring MVC, etc.)
    • Unix environment experience and basic shell scripting experience.
    • CXF or any JAX-RS compliant libraries+
