Domino will appear in High Moon's upcoming Deadpool game

Domino, Psylocke, and other XMen coming to Deadpool's game
X-Force regular, occasional X-Man, and full-time female mercenary Domino will make an appearance in Deadpool, according to the Merc with a Mouth himself. Just as he did in San Diego earlier this year, Deadpool showed up during a Marvel games panel at the New York Comic-Con last week and, after confronting his dancing alter-ego, said that the Rob Liefeld-created Domino, a.k.a. Neena Thurman, would be showing up in the upcoming game from High Moon Studios.

Unfortunately, that's all he decided to share during his very raucous appearance. High Moon is reportedly hard at work on the game, and Deadpool promised it's still set for a release sometime next year.

Two BioShock Infinite leads leave Irrational for Microsoft

More BioShock Infinite departures at Irrational
BioShock Infinite's AI lead, Don Norbury, and combat design director Clint Bundrick are now at Microsoft, Superannuation tweets. Norbury's new job at Microsoft is senior software development engineer, while Bundrick is senior designer, their LinkedIn profiles read.

Four Irrational employees left the studio in August. The most surprising departure was Nate Wells, who had been with Irrational for 13 years. Irrational Games founder Ken Levine said these employees were part of a normal turnover for a company of 200 employees, and they wanted to "spread their wings." Infinite producer Joseph Faulstick also left Irrational for Microsoft in May.

BioShock Infinite is set to drop in February, and the first trailer in four months is set to be revealed on October 21.

Dishonored is 2012's biggest new IP launch in UK, FIFA 13 sees 1st place hat trick

FIFA 13 was – and, probably still is – the top selling game in the UK. For the third week in a row the footie sportsball game, despite a 63 percent decline in sales last week, retained its premier position.

Bethesda's Dishonored actually debuted in second place. According to Chart-Track, it's the biggest new intellectual property launch of the year, besting Square Enix's Sleeping Dogs. Even combining sales of Pokemon Black (#3) and White (#5) Version 2, Dishonored would still hold its second place position.

The other major launch last week, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, premiered in seventh place behind the insidious Just Dance 4. The aliens are winning. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

'Pressure' forces racing and vintage quack medicine together

Pressure, developed by Chasing Carrots and published by TopWare Interactive, is definitely the first action racing game we can think of that reminds us of the Kellogg family's Battle Creek Sanitarium.

The steampunk racing/shooting game has players, driving a steam-powered buggy, attempting to defeat the "Earl of Wellness," who has drained the local lake to provide water for his "Wellness Spa Temple."

Once again, this is a racing game. See for yourself above. It's coming to PC, PS3 download, and XBLA.

Devil May Cry's new trailer shows some things don't change

As this new trailer from the New York Comic Con shows, not everything's changed in the alternate reality of Ninja Theory's Devil May Cry. The music remains familiar, very much the Joystiq-turn-that-racket-down-right-now-or-so-help-me-Lord brand of heavy metal.

Capcom also revealed at NYCC that it's bringing a DmC demo out before the game launches. The demo is definitely coming to consoles, but there's no word yet on it coming to PC. The game launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on January 15 2013.

Injustice: Gods Among Us online mode built on Mortal Kombat foundation

Injustice NYCC
Green Arrow, one of the newest heroes attached to NetherRealm Entertainment's Injustice: Gods Among Us, was on display during the 2012 New York Comic Con where Joystiq donned his emerald hood.

Green Arrow's core powers appear to be modeled after Mortal Kombat mainstay Sub-Zero. Players can fire an arrow to freeze their opponent or generate an electric shock, stopping adversaries dead in their tracks. Arrow's special ability is as brutal as any meter special you've come to expect in a fighting game from the team behind Mortal Kombat. Attaching opponents to a wire, Green Arrow grabs his opponent and brings them crashing back to the ground for a devastating attack.

NetherRealm producer Hector Sanchez says to bring Injustice: Gods Among Us to the same competitive level of the company's previous release, the team will build upon the strong foundation of Mortal Kombat's online system and add features along the way.

"Imagine the online availability that we had in Mortal Kombat just on steroids," he says.

The Unfinished Swan review: Palette cleanser

Video games are good at a lot of things. Typically, they appeal to our baser instincts – usually the desire for power, in whatever form that may take, be it blasting aliens, slaying dragons or scoring touchdowns. What they do particularly well that isn't explored often enough, is rekindle our childhood capacity for amazement.

I think this is something that most invested players realize, whether they've ever articulated it or not. More than books or movies, games engage us, and the good ones pull us in. They can remind us what it was like to lift a rock in a garden, discovering the creatures that live underneath, or how it felt to dribble paint on a sheet of paper, fold it in half and reveal a butterfly.

The Unfinished Swan is the story of a child, Monroe. Its ability to plant players firmly in his shoes, to help us see the world as he does, is what makes it special.

All of Call of Duty Elite free for Black Ops 2, DLC season pass announced [Update: Activision 'working' to get DLC on Wii U]

All Call of Duty Elite services for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be free, Activision has announced. Previously, a premium Elite subscription offered an extra tier of services and guaranteed early access to downloadable map packs. This time around, it appears that early access to DLC is no longer available, though Xbox 360 players will be able to purchase a season pass for $50. The season pass will include access to four map packs throughout 2013. With each map pack normally priced at $15, season pass holders will save a total of $10.

No season pass has been announced for PS3, Wii U or PC and, in fact, the press release notes that "season pass and DLC map packs may not be available on all gaming platforms." It seems unlikely that Activision would neglect to offer such lucrative DLC on every possible platform, though the language is worth noting.

The decision to make Elite free is an interesting one, especially given how (very) successful the program has been. After debuting to 6.5 million units sold, Modern Warfare 3 moved over 600,000 Elite subscriptions in a single week. Then again, given that the season pass will sell for the same $50 price, the difference may be negligible. Also, apart from a few extra perks, the premium version of Elite was essentially a season pass to begin with, so not much has changed.

Update: We asked Activision to clarify the statement regarding the DLC on other platforms. The publisher noted that it is "working with Nintendo" to bring both the DLC and the season pass to the Wii U version of Black Ops 2. It made no mention of the PS3 and PC versions though, again, we doubt Activision would ignored two major platforms.

First Sleeping Dogs story DLC hits Oct. 30, is 'horror-themed'

First Sleeping Dogs story DLC, 'Nightmare in Northpoint,' hits Oct 30
"Nightmare in Northpoint," the first story-driven bit of DLC for Sleeping Dogs, is set to fight for dominance on October 30.

It will be "horror-themed," similar to Red Dead Redemption's "Undead Nightmare" DLC (it even shares a common word), United Front tells Kotaku. United Front unveiled the DLC during a panel at New York Comic Con, saying the pack will "explore other aspects of Hong Kong cinema."

Sleeping Dogs is getting heaps of DLC in the six months following its launch in August, with the "Street Racer" pack next in line on October 16.

Stiq Flicks: Dishonored and Leon The Professional

Stiq Flicks – from film and video game industry freelance writer Kevin Kelly – examines video games and attempts to pair them with matching films. It's like wine and cheese, but with more aliens.

Stiq Flicks Dishonored and Lon The Professional
Dishonored puts you into the shoes (and mask) of a mysterious bodyguard who has been framed for the murder of his Empress employer. Saved from death by a band of insurgents, he becomes an assassin who stalks in the shadows and kills silently ... or with extreme noise, depending on how you play the game. Whatever way you decide to go at it, Corvo's ultimate goal is to find and protect the Empress' daughter, Emily.

Which brings us to our film pairing for the game. In 1994, Luc Besson wrote and directed Léon, which was called The Professional in the United States. It starred French actor Jean Reno as a Léon, a skillful hitman "cleaner" working for the mob who takes a very young Mathilda (Natalie Portman) under his wing after her family is murdered by crooked cops.

The character of Léon is a fleshed-out version of a similar cleaner character that Jean Reno played in La Femme Nikita, and Besson himself has said, "Now maybe Jean is playing the American cousin of Victor. This time he's more human." Which is an understatement. Although Léon is a hitman, he's more human than plenty of the heroes of cinema.

Cross-link, more alternate costumes announced for Street Fighter X Tekken

Crosslink, more alternate costumes announced for Street Fighter X Tekken
Capcom Producer Tomoaki Ayano recapped announcements from New York Comic Con, including "cross-link" features for Street Fighter X Tekken in a Capcom Unity blog. The feature allows players to use their PlayStation Vita consoles as controllers for the PS3 version of the game.

Ayano also noted an October 30 release date for alternate costumes for Street Fighter X Tekken and a mid-December release window for the next "hefty" game update. The update will include character balance fixes, such as tweaked anti-air abilities for Tekken characters, in addition to several visual effects changes.

Walking Dead Episode Four PS3 save issue patched

Walking Dead Episode Four PS3 save issue patched
A "small number" of PS3 players encountered a save glitch when booting up The Walking Dead Episode Four: Around Every Corner, resulting in lost games and decisions. Telltale patched the bug last night on PS3, its Twitter reads.

Telltale previously told us that it was possible to avoid the glitch by "refraining from use of the third save slot in the game menu." That should all be fixed up nicely now, but like the 13th floor of a haunted hotel, maybe you want to avoid that third slot anyway.

We've contacted Telltale regarding potential glitches across other platforms.

'Civil War' table coming to Marvel Pinball

Zen Studios announced standalone DLC for Marvel Pinball called Civil War at a New York Comic Con panel. The theme for this pinball table was taken from a multi-part comic event from 2006 of the same name that pitted Iron Man and Captain America against each other.

No specific release date was given for the DLC, though the trailer above teases that it's "coming soon" to PSN, XBLA, Apple's App Store and the Google Play store.

Failing the NHL 13 academy

Failing the NHL 13 academy
I love sports, but I know next to nothing about hockey. Maybe my lack of NHL love has something to do with my Wisconsin upbringing, a sort of "no-man's land" for professional hockey. The Milwaukee Admirals AHL team doesn't excite me, and picking between the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings is an uncomfortable proposition.

My knowledge of the sport itself is even more limited. Aside from the terms "icing" and "line changes," hockey is alien to me. Joystiq recently ran an editorial discussing how simulation sports games don't do enough to assist people like me in learning the ropes in the sports they feature. To test that theory, I attempted to learn more about hockey through NHL 13.

SingStar becoming a 'free download,' mic still required

SingStar becoming a 'free download,' mic still required
Sony's SingStar Viewer app for the PlayStation 3 previously just allowed players to check out SingStar content for free; they'd have to put the game's disc in if they actually wanted to sing along with any of the game's songs. But a new message in the app hints that will be changing very soon. The Viewer app has reportedly been discontinued, and a message when the app is loaded says that "The complete SingStar experience will be available as a free download very soon!" Presumably, that means that anyone will be able to download SingStar, and then play Sony's karaoke game for zero cost (with extra songs being purchaseable separately).

The one catch: The game will still require a mic, so if you haven't bought one of those yet, you'll need to do so. But the good news is that the mics are available for just a few bucks in certain places, so those interested should be able to pick one up easily. We'll look for more official news on this next week from the PlayStation Blog.
