Transition Center gives disabled students life skills

At Joliet Township High School’s new Transition Center on Collins Street in downtown Joliet, students with disabilities get additional training in practical skills they’ll need beyond their senior year in high school. The Project Discovery program gives students a chance to choose which field interests them the most. Students have chosen food service, office and retail jobs, so the staff formed classes within the center for training in these areas.

Federal regulators want the Housing Authority of Joliet to demolish the Fairview housing complex and restructure operations to lift itself out of a designation as a “troubled” housing agency. The recommendations from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development were delivered Friday after an assessment team had spent the week reviewing operations in Joliet.
