City vehicle stickers to be sold year-round

City Clerk Susana Mendoza said Wednesday she’s planning to shift to the year-round sale of city stickers to eliminate long lines and ease the financial hardship on two- and three-car families.
Currently, the city has the same June 30 deadline for all motorists. A two-week grace period extends the deadline until July 15 before the city brings the hammer down on sticker scofflaws.
Testifying Wednesday during City Council budget hearings, Mendoza disclosed her intention to shift to a staggered, year-round renewal system patterned after the Illinois Secretary of State’s rolling system for renewing license plates.
“If we can make people’s lives easier, we can reduce the lines at City Hall. We can cut down our overtime costs. And we can still bring in the same revenue, if not more, because you get more people who are able to actually purchase their sticker because it’s not that overwhelming for them,” Mendoza said.
