- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reissued a 2009 recall of Maclaren umbrella strollers because 37 people have been hurt -- including five who had fingertips amputated -- since the original recall. The stroller's hinge mechanism can cut fingers when a consumer is unfolding the stroller, CPSC said. The recall includes all Maclaren strollers sold before November 2009. Consumers should contact Maclaren at (877) 688-2326 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST or by e-mail for a repair kit.
- Bimbo Bakeries USA Inc. recalled certain lots of Entenmann's bagged Pop'Ems donuts and Bimbo brand 8-pack Donitas sold in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming after receiving consumer complaints about a foul odor from the doughnuts and from consumers suffering from diarrhea and nausea after eating them, said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The agency lists the UPC codes included in the recall. Consumers should return the doughnuts to the store for a refund. Call the company at (800) 984-0989.
- Telstar Products, which does business as Sprint International Inc., recalled 317,000 Telstar and Electra brand energy-saving light bulbs because they can overheat and have so far caused two fires, the CPSC said. The light bulbs were sold at discount stores in New York and New Jersey from August 2010 through March 2011 for between $1 and $1.50. The CPSC lists the model numbers included in the recall. Consumers should return the bulbs for a refund. Call the company at (888) 828-1680 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
- UJ Trading recalled 18,500 Danbar Knight Hawk Toy Helicopters because the battery housing can overheat while charging, creating a fire hazard, the CPSC said. No incidents have been reported to the company. The toys were sold nationwide at stores, mall kiosks and online from April 2010 through April 2011 for about $36 each. Consumers should contact UJ Trading for a refund, and the company will provide a postage-paid label to return the toy. Call the company at (800) 536-2691 weekdays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST.
- General Motors recalled about 136,500 of the 2011 model year of its Chevrolet Cruze, GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express vehicles in three recalls.
- Multi-Mex Distributor Inc. recalled dietary supplements because they could be mistaken for antibiotics.
- In a similar recall, Phoenix Import & Distribution LLC recalled a lot of its Pentrexly Forte Natural dietary supplement sold in Texas because it might be confused with an antibiotic. The FDA lists the UPC and lot numbers.
- The nationwide grape tomato recall expanded once again to include certain vegetable trays and snack packs sold nationwide in Safeway chain stores.
- Meijer Inc. recalled 17,400 Falls Creek Bumble Bee and Lady Bug Infant Slipper Socks because the balls at the end of the bug's antennae can detach, creating a choking hazard, the CPSC said. Meijer received one report of a ball detaching; it was found in the child's crib. Included in the recall are yellow and black Bumble Bee Slipper Socks, UPC 80640907401, and red and black Lady Bug Slipper Socks, UPC 80640907402. The UPC is located on the sock's hang tag. The socks were sold in infant sizes, 0-12 months, in Meijer stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio from June 2009 through March 2011 for about $4 each. Consumers should return them for a refund. Call the company at (800) 927-8699 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
- Goodness Gardens Inc. recalled a single lot of chives because it may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, which can cause a potentially fatal illness in the very young, elderly or frail, the FDA said. So far no one has reported getting sick from eating the chives. Included in the recall is lot number 0201111 with the date of May 6, 2011, on it. The chives were sold in stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Consumers can return them to the store for a refund. - Doctor's CarbRite Diet recalled a dozen flavors of its diet bars and Universal Hi Protein bars because they may contain peanuts and could be missing an allergy alert on the labels, the FDA said. The bars were sold nationwide in health-food stores, gyms and online. The FDA lists the flavors and UPC codes included in the recall. Consumers can return the bars for refunds. Call the company at (732) 545-3130 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
- Oberweis Dairy Inc. recalled quarts of its Brownie Fudge Twirl Ice Cream because it may contain eggs that weren't listed in the ingredients, the FDA said. Ice cream included in the recall has the UPC 616029064550. So far no one has reported getting sick from eating the ice cream. The ice cream was sold at seven stores in Illinois and Wisconsin. Consumers can return the ice cream to the store for a refund. Call the company at (866) 623-7934.
- Tri-City Cheese and Meats recalled about 252 pounds of kippered beef because it contains sodium nitrite not listed on the label, said the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Included in the recall are Troll Smokehouse Kippered Beef Original Flavor in 1-pound and 5-ounce packages. The beef was sold in Michigan stores and online. So far, no one has reported getting sick from eating the beef. Consumers can call the company vice president, Lenny Mondeau, at (989) 686-3210.
