Identity checks & services

Whether you need an identity check, a photograph for an application form or your passport application reviewed, Australia Post can help. Our staff are trained in a wide range of identity checks and services.

  • Australian passports - you can attend an interview for a new passport or a passport renewal at more than 1700 Australia Post retail outlets nationally. During your interview we'll verify your identity and make sure your documentation is correct, before submitting your application to the Australian Passport Office on your behalf. 
  • British passports - if you're applying for a new or renewed British passport, you can have your application reviewed at one of 120 participating Australia Post retail outlets. We'll also submit your application to the British High Commission on your behalf. 
  • Instant passport photos - if you need a photograph for identity purposes, we can take and print passport quality photos while you wait. Our photos are suitable for a wide range of applications including passports, visas, citizenships, and Maritime Security Identification cards. 
  • Identity checks and identity verification - we can perform a range of identity checks for you including a 100-point identity check and other document-based checks to verify your identity. 
  • Land title transactions- you can have your identity verified for WA land title transactions at participating Australia Post retail outlets.
  • NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages - you can apply for a birth, death or marriage certificate at participating Australia Post retail outlets in NSW.
  • Witnessing documents - we can witness your signature on a document and can also certify that photocopies of your original documents are true copies.

Make an appointment

If you're applying for an Australian passport or British passport we recommend you book an appointment to make sure one of our trained staff is available to help you. The first step is to choose an Australia Post retail outlet. Post Office Locator can help you find one that offers these particular services.

You can make an appointment at your chosen outlet by:

  • booking online through Post Office Locator
  • calling us on 13 POST (13 7678).
  • asking at any Australia Post retail outlet

If you make your appointment online, our booking system can send you a reminder by text message (SMS) or email on the day before your interview.
