After 10 years of living and working in the altered state of Florida, Daryl Lease put his shoes back on and returned to his native state of Virginia in 2008 to join the editorial board of The Virginian-Pilot.

He is editor of the op-ed page and also writes editorials, primarily about topics in Chesapeake and northeastern North Carolina as well as state and national issues. His political humor columns appear most Saturdays in The Pilot and are picked up occasionally by other papers around the country.

In Florida, Daryl worked as an opinion writer at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, where his columns were distributed nationally by The New York Times News Service. He started his career in journalism as a reporter at The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, where he later became an editorial writer and columnist. He grew up in Fredericksburg and is a graduate of Mary Washington College. He and his family live in northeastern N.C.3+
