Give your old phone a bit of a face lift with a replacement Start Menu and task manager.

LaunchPad Review

by on September 24, 2010

There’s a lot not to like about Windows Mobile and one of them happens to be the Start Menu system. It’s just not practical to navigate with a large number of programs and it’s not even easy to reorganise how it lists them. LaunchPad is an attempt to replace it with an iPhone-style sliding selection of homepages dubbed favourites. To this you can add: programs, settings, file/folders and contacts. It starts off with two pages but more are created automatically. Besides this it provides a standard alphabetical list of installed programs, the same for settings and a new task manager.

It’s a relatively slick interface that, if you select it, will replace the Windows button on your phone with a well designed program launcher. There’s a basic skinning system that really just changes the colour scheme but this as with similar programs doesn’t extend beyond the launcher app.

On our HTC Touch 2 the scrolling wasn’t perfect but good enough and for those who are heavy app users this would make a good alternative, though it can’t do anything for the rest of Windows Mobile.
