  1. The kids whose hearts are broken today...are the adults who will chose whether to support the world of sport in the future

  2. And when those little ppl grow up you better hope they still love not just the players but the SPORTS they worship now the stands are full

  3. After all, it's in yr best interest b/c those little people who wear the jerseys and plaster their walls with fave players grow up

  4. I know ya have to cover Lance Armstrong stories...but when ya can, arm the rest of us w/ stories that remind us what sport is really about

  5. Those feel good stories will never garner the kind of ratings stoked by Lance Armstrong or Manti Te'O but they will serve their purpose

  6. Here's my plea for sportswriters, when you can shine a spotlight on heroism on and off the court.

  7. You see Juwan made a promise to his grandmother that he would get his college degree and he did. THAT is heroic

  8. My kids practically roll their eyes when Mr Michigan repeatedly tells em how Juwan Howard graduated on time w/ his class after going pro

  9. We try to point out the athletes who bat to all fields, rally the team when its down, the ones who play thru pain and keep up their grades

  10. As parents, Mr Michigan and I do our best to point out the great ones when we see them. And by great I don't just mean the standard "stars"

  11. For all the ink & airtime on pathological athletes, I know there are also heroic men & women who raise the bar each day w/ their dedication

  12. ....but i also know the joy of watching true heroism on the field or the court or in the pool or on the ice.

  13. Heck, pathology is not even in their vocabulary. I don't want it to be in their vocabulary outside of perhaps biology class.

  14. Little people who don't have the same filters of callouses to shrug this stuff off as human weakness or off-the-charts pathology.

  15. Little people who tear pictures out of sports illustrated and headlines out of the paper and post them up on their walls and school lockers

  16. The subjects of these stories -- the lyin, cheatin, thugged-up, doped-up, slap yr woman, me me me! athletes are worshipped by little people
