Big changes are taking place across the region as a cold front is pushing through. Winds are shifting to the north behind the front and picking up. The gusty winds are dropping temperatures into the upper 40s to lower 50s. Scattered showers are likely today. Skies will be variably cloudy.

A strong cold front will push through later tonight and early Tuesday providing opportunities for showers and ushering in much cooler conditions. In the meantime, enjoy another mild day today as highs get back into the lower 70s. We will see increasing clouds this afternoon and evening.

NEW YORK Utility companies in New York and New Jersey closed in on restoring power today to the last of the 8.5 million who lost it during the superstorm two weeks ago and a subsequent nor’easter, but tens of thousands of homes and businesses were too damaged to receive electricity, and delays and a dearth of updates have angered residents and government officials alike.

A mild start to the week, but big changes are coming before the week is through. Lots of sunshine and mild temperatures are expected for Veterans Day. Afternoon high temperatures will be around 70 degrees. Clouds will thicken up Monday ahead of a strong cold front. Southeast breezes will allow temperatures to reach the lower to mid-70s during the afternoon.

Over the next few days we will see increasing warmth with highs more typical of mid-October. Nights will be cool, but not as cold as what we have seen lately.
Temperatures will drop down into the 40s tonight, and then dip to the upper 30s for inland and rural spots overnight, while coastal and urban locations will be more like the lower or mid 40s.

High pressure will dominate our weather through the weekend. The result is sunshine today through Sunday. Winds will shift to the southwest tonight, and south winds on Saturday will drive temperatures back into the upper 60s. Highs Sunday and Monday will reach the lower 70s.

A Coastal Flood Advisory continues through 6 p.m. The tide level at Sewells Point early this morning reached about 4.4 feet, producing minor tidal flooding. This afternoon's high tide at 3:46 p.m. will produce similar conditions and the water may be an inch higher.

NEW YORK A nor’easter blustered into New York and New Jersey on Wednesday with rain and wet snow, plunging homes right back into darkness, stopping commuter trains again and inflicting another round of misery on thousands of people still reeling from Superstorm Sandy’s blow more than a week ago.

The nor’easter that went past North Carolina Tuesday and today brought rain, wind and flooding to parts of the Outer Banks already hard hit by superstorm Sandy.

A Coastal flood advisory is in effect for parts of South Hampton Roads and its surrounding areas. The advisory, in effect until at least 6 a.m. Thursday, includes Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Accomack and Northampton counties and Dare and Hyde counties in North Carolina.
