You beat Guild Wars 2! Now what?
Being team commander, the sole RTS player in shooter/RTS hybrid Natural Selection 2, is kind of completely nerve-wracking. My FPS teammates on the ground didn't miss a single slip-up: "Why haven't you researched this technology? Why haven't you healed me? Why aren't you rallying everyone to defend this base? Why don't we have a teleporter? Why are there giant, elephant-like Onos everywhere, and why is everything on fire?" Whether I'm on the aliens' side or the humans,' I feel that my actions can mean the difference between a well-oiled war machine and a losing effort that short-circuits into an ugly, bile-fueled shouting match. The latter happened a lot when I didn't know what I was doing, and -- unlike my obedient and unquestioning units in, say, StarCraft -- my team definitely held me accountable for poor directions. To be clear, this is a good thing. Read More »
We love free games here at GameSpy. Especially if they're great free games like Irrational's 2007 masterpiece BioShock. Today, GameFly is giving away the shooter on their newly rolled out digital distribution client, and you don't have to pay a dime to check it out. Read More »
Criterion Games' Need For Speed: Most Wanted made me forget the disappointment of Black Box's NFS The Run from my first virtual turn of the key. Although it misfires on occasion, this over-the-top arcade racer still plants a silly grin on my face, whether I'm racing AI Corvettes, breaching police roadblocks, or nitrous-boosting past desperate online opponents. It does a lot of things very right. Read More »
Is there such a thing as too many indie games? Because, we might be reaching that point. Especially with two very popular indie bundles dropping on the same day. We've got the Humble Andoid Bundle 4, which has some well-known and excellent games, on top of Indie Royale's effort, which sports some perhaps lesser-known, but still awesome games for us to check out. All for $whatever! Read More »
Look, I get it. Most of you weren't fans of the original Mass Effect 3 ending. Nor were you fans of BioWare's attempt to make it better with their various DLCs. Well, one modder was so upset that he went ahead and made his own ending. And a happy one at that. Think of it as an armchair director's cut. Read More »
UPDATE: Digital copies of Game Informer have dropped with a bunch of new information. Check inside for updates as to what you can expect.
Okay, you can stop the drum rolls now. The Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonists have been unveiled. Yes, that's plural. Three gentlemen are taking the reigns in Rockstar's upcoming open-world epic. According to Game Informer's new cover reveal, the three will be taking to the absolutely gigantic Los Santos to, I assume, do a whole bunch of crimes. Read More »
Patience, young Skywalker, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be free to play faster than Han Solo can make the Kessel Run. Next week, in fact. BioWare announced this morning that a $15 monthly subscription will no longer be required to play SWTOR beginning on November 15. Read More »
You might recall the article Dan wrote back in June outlining the Five Features Steam Needs. Included in that rundown was the ability to live-stream games from your Steam library. Gabe Newell and crew haven't heeded that call to broadcast just yet, but Electronic Arts and Origin have. EA announced this morning that the next Origin update will include live broadcasting via Twitch. Read More »
I'd love, love to trek from Morrowind to Hammerfell and back again with a friend or three in The Elder Scrolls. A cross-country, co-op adventure in Tamriel would be amazing. I've even fashioned a name for it: "The Barn Burning, Bandit Killing Tour 2E 578." And yes, I can hear you yelling at me through your monitor, "It's called The Elder Scrolls Online." Just one problem: I'm not a big MMO guy, what with all the grinding and random players running and jumping to quest giving-NPCs with big exclamation points above their heads. I'm willing to give The Elder Scrolls Online a chance, though, and today Bethesda begins its pitch to non-MMO fans like myself with a lengthy developer diary highlighted by the first gameplay footage. See it for yourself within. Read More »
As reported by IGN, Blizzard's Mike Morhaime announced on an earnings call that a Diablo 3 expansion is currently in the works. This should come as no surprise considering almost every Blizzard game from the past 20 years has had an expansion, including each of the previous two Diablo games and most recently the Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft. One of the biggest bummers about being a PC gamer is the slight lack of fighting games making their way over. Sure, we got Street Fighter IV, but where's my Tekken Tag Tournament 2? How about one of those HD remakes that the console crowd got? Well, it looks like we're going to start getting at least a little something, as GOG is now selling Street Fighter Alpha 2 in all its glory. Read More »
We must stop this overpopulation of tanks in the world. Not our world, the World of Tanks. There are simply too many, and this new announcement of a Chinese tank tree joining the ranks isn't exactly going to help. Seventeen new armored monstrosities are rolling into the free-to-play game, and I can't just stand by and let it happen. I'm just going to have to get in there and blow some of them up. Read More »
You'd think that with a name like Omega, the new Mass Effect 3 DLC would be the final bit of new content. Or at least have something to do with the ending. But alas, it appears neither of those things will be the case. BioWare shared the first Omega screens and a few more details about the DLC today. Female Turian incoming! Read More »
Is it a little wrong that I don't particularly care if Jason Brody and his friends survive their time in Far Cry 3? This new story trailer paints them in an awfully jerky light. Of course, the trailer implies that they'll all be changed significantly by their time on the island with all these "savages," so perhaps they'll find the time to become quality human beings in the process. Maybe I'm being too judgmental. Read More »
Sure, Warface's CryEngine 3 PvP battles look pretty, but Crytek is also adding another element that could separate this one from the growing free-to-play shooter pack: regularly updated co-op PvE content. I have no idea how it will fit into the F2P model, but after seeing the first Warface co-op trailer, I know I want to take it for a spin. Read More »
