[edit] Overview
The 2012 Battle.net World Championship is a premier global event organized by Blizzard Entertainment, and which will feature some of the best players of the world. Slated to take place in Shanghai, China on November 17-18 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. It will be held instead of a 2012 BlizzCon Invitational.[1] The World Championship will be the final event of a four-tier program, with tournaments at the continental, national, and sub-national level throughout 2012:
- Tier 4: The World Championship, held in Asia at the end of the year.
- Tier 3: Five continental championships (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania), each of them being a live offline event.
- Tier 2: 28 national championships aiming to crown national champion for each country involved.
- Tier 1: Grassroots national qualifiers, run in cooperation with existing eSports organizations.
Each tier feeds directly into the one above it, with 32 players competing in the World Championship. The whole program will be held exclusively on Wings of Liberty, regardless of possible Heart of the Swarm release.[2][3]
