Paying for postage

The term postage means the amount payable for carriage of an article by post. The postage on your articles can be represented in the following ways:

A simple and easy way to pay for your postage. Stamps can be pre-purchased in various denominations that cover the postage rate of the type of mail you are sending. For your convenience, self-adhesive stamps can be purchased in bulk from all Australia Post retail outlets and business centres.

Another convenient way to pay for your postage. With prepaid envelopes or satchels, you simply address your article and drop it in a street posting box - there's no need to worry about buying stamps separately as the price includes the postage and the cost of the envelope or satchel. Discounts are provided for purchasing prepaid envelopes and satchels in bulk.

  • 'Postage Paid Australia' imprint

A postage paid imprint can be printed directly onto the upper right hand corner of your articles (where a stamp would normally be applied) to represent that the postage has been paid. It is represented by the words "POSTAGE PAID AUSTRALIA" and is used by customers paying for articles using an Australia Post Business Credit Account, or customers making large volume lodgements.

Customers using the 'Postage Paid Australia' imprint who do not have an Australia Post Business Credit Account, can also make payment by cash, debit or credit card when lodged over the counter at an Australia Post retail outlet.

Australia Post Business Credit Account customers may access a cheaper postage rate for full rate mail lodgements, (e.g. $0.58 instead of $0.60 for a small (standard) letter) by using the 'Postage Paid Australia' imprint.

Articles bearing a 'Postage Paid Australia' imprint must be lodged at an Australia Post retail outlet.

Used by many small to medium businesses as a convenient way to pay for their postage. A postage meter prints an indicia (markings on a mail piece showing that postage has been paid by the sender) on your mail piece indicating the value of the postage paid.

This means there's no need to apply an individual stamp or preprint the words "Postage Paid Australia" on each piece. You'll also access the metered imprint rate for full rate mail, (e.g. $0.58 instead of $0.60 for a standard letter).

Once your postage meter has been set up, you can download postage at any time. A 2.5% rebate is also provided every time you reset your meter. Postage can be charged to an Australia Post Business Credit Account or organised with the postage meter supplier.
