National Currency Collection

Introduction

The National Currency Collection of the Bank of Canada houses the largest institutional collection of Canadian money and also contains many monetary objects from around the world. Over 100,000 objects make up the collection, which includes a comprehensive collection of Canadian coins, tokens and bank notes, as well as a wide representation of foreign currencies and ethnographic artifacts dating from ancient to modern times. Since only a small portion of these objects are on display at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa, the Currency Museum is enhancing its website so that students, specialists, and the public can explore and learn more about the entire collection. Stay tuned for updates!
