The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2 concludes the two-part adaptation of Frank Miller's groundbreaking 1986 Batman story on Blu-ray and DVD at the end of this month, so why not take a peek at three brand new official images showing off the animated versions of Batman, the Joker, and even Superman?

Not too long ago, a sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine looked like a Great White Buffalo, an impossibly rare creature.  But now Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is looking likely, with three out of four stars in early talks to return.  John Cusack fans are in for a bit of a letdown, though.

Over seven outstanding seasons, Michael Chiklis starred as the complex, corrupt, and endlessly compelling Detective Vic Mackey on the FX series The Shield.  While the show wrapped up in 2008, fans continue to clamor for a cinematic follow-up, and Chiklis himself has revealed that creator Shawn Ryan has a "phenomenal idea" for a feature version of The Shield.

Chiklis also became the first interviewee in IAR's history to share that he wants to strangle our Managing Editor Jami Philbrick.

A new international trailer for the upcoming sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation keeps things succinct, clocking in at less than a minute.  But you better believe that this Japanese trailer makes use of every second, as it's packed with the oh-so marketable combination of action, big visual effects, Byung Hun-lee, and Bruce Willis.

As a franchise, The Expendables is about the pure, undiluted joy of watching a huge ensemble of established action stars getting together and blowing up many, many things.  With each new sequel, we all get to participate in a speculation and rumor game as to just who will join the gunpowder-laced proceedings.

The game is afoot, as no less a source than Jason Statham (Safe, the Transporter franchise) has commented on the possibility of Jackie Chan (Rumble in the Bronx, The Karate Kid) joining The Expendables 3 and shared his enthusiasm for the sequel.

We knew that Danny Trejo would once again lay waste to a villain's nefarious plans in the sequel Machete Kills, but we didn't know when.  Open Road Films changed that today by announcing the release date for Robert Rodriguez's next film.

Between the set photos of long ago and the more recent theatrical for Man of Steel, we've now put our eyes on Henry Cavill in costume as the newly rebooted cinematic Superman quite a few times.  In those set photos, though, Cavill isn't properly lit, and the trailer itself keeps shots of the costume quite quick and partial.

Thanks to the miracle of merchandizing tie-ins, today we have a look at an excessively detailed statue of Superman and his new duds.  Spoiler: he looks very superheroic.

When we last saw Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels at the end of Dumb & Dumber almost two decades ago, Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne were trudging along a highway, having missed their opportunity to become Hawaiian Tropic greaseboys.

We will discover their fate, though.  According to co-director Peter Farrelly in an IAR exclusive, the sequel, tentatively titled Dumb & Dumber To, is definitely happening.

Guillermo del Toro Talks 'Mama'

Tuesday, 15 January 2013 10:51

Guillermo del Toro is a one-man marketing machine.

The famously loquacious director serves as executive producer on Mama, hitting theaters nationwide this Friday, January 18th.  Directed by Andres Muschietti and based on his own short film of the same name, Mama stars Academy award nominee Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Help) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (HBO's Game of Thrones, the upcoming Oblivion) as a couple who encounter supernatual madness when the man gains custody of his nieces, played by Megan Charpentier (Resident Evil: Retribution) and Isabel Nelisse (Whitewash).

After their father murdered their mother, the children disappeared into the woods for five years.  When they return to civilization, their uncle and his lady suspect that the girls may not have been entirely alone, and they may have brought something horrible back with them.

Del Toro's directorial credits include critically acclaimed, visually stunning films such as Pan's Labyrinth, Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, and both Hellboy and Hellboy II; The Golden Army.  He's currently in post-production on this summer's massive monsters versus robots epic Pacific Rim, but del Toro also keeps ridiculously busy as a producer of films as varied as Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Puss in Boots, Rise of the Guardians, and now, Mama.

Along with several other entertainment journalists, IAR Managing Editor Jami Philbrick participated in a roundtable interview with Guillermo del Toro, who expertly talked up Mama and what makes the film special while somehow managing to avoid his tendency to indulge in happily obscene language.

Cinematographer Greig Fraser had one hell of a year in 2012!

Not only did he shoot the box office hit Snow White and the Huntsman, as well as the Brad Pitt thriller Killing Them Softly, but he also shot the critically acclaimed film Zero Dark Thirty, which in my opinion was the best film of the year and is currently playing in theaters in wide release.

The Kathryn Bigelow directed film, written by screenwriter Mark Boal, gives a dramatic account of the ten years leading up to the assassination of Osama bin Laden. One of the best parts of the film is its realistic look and feel, which can be attributed to Fraser’s terrific work.

Just before the holidays, I had a chance to speak with Director of Photography Greig Fraser about Zero Dark Thirty, while he was in New York shooting his next film Foxcatcher starring Channing Tatum, Steve Carrell and Mark Ruffalo. The accomplished cinematographer discussed Zero Dark Thirty, the secrecy behind the script, working with Kathryn Bigelow, the look of the film, making it different than The Hurt Locker, shooting the torture scenes, and the difficulty of filming the climatic raid sequence.
