Girls usually get a bad rap when it comes to film…television…music…pretty much everything media related. Films that are aimed at young females usually either belittle or patronise them, while others make their female protagonists adorn a character that well, might as well be a man. It’s rare that you find projects that have strong young female characters without rubbing the fact that they are in the audience’s faces. It’s even rarer to find ones that are actually good (come on Sucker Punch). Two titles opening soon, Spring Breakers and The Bling Ring are inadvertently taking on the large, yet difficult to execute gap in the market, showing that girls may *shock* actually be able to lead, be strong individuals, while also playing feminine roles.
