Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP)

The Bank of Canada is subject to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The Access to Information Act is one way that Canadian citizens, people who live in Canada, and corporations resident in Canada can access federal-government records that are not of a personal nature. The Privacy Act provides a right of access to personal information under the control of a government institution.

How to make an Access to Information Act or Privacy Act Request

1. Print and fill out the Access to Information Request Form or Personal Information Request Form. Each Access to Information request must be accompanied by a $5.00 application fee. Payment may be in the form of a cheque or money order payable to Bank of Canada. Please note that there are no application fees for requests made under the Privacy Act.
2. Alternatively, you may submit a written request containing the following:
   • A statement that you are making a request pursuant to the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act;
   • A description, as detailed as possible, of the records you wish to access (consult Info Source for further details on the Bank’s record holdings);
   • An indication of whether you wish to receive photocopies of records or come into the Bank's Head Office or one of its Regional Offices to view them;
   • Your name, complete address, telephone number;
   • Date;
   • Signature.
