The College of Communications has captured back-to-back national championships in the overall intercollegiate standings in the William R. Hearst Foundation’s Journalism Awards Program. The annual competition -- known as "the Pulitzers of college journalism" -- is open to students from the country’s 106 nationally accredited undergraduate mass communication programs.

Bolstered by event victories from redshirt-juniors Mahagony Jones (Cleveland, Ohio) and Evonne Britton (El Paso, Texas), the Nittany Lion women's track and field team captured top honors at the team standings Sunday (May 12) at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at Ohio State University. The Nittany Lions totaled 133 points on their way to the program's fourth outdoor conference team title.

A powerful collaboration of researchers, manufacturers and economic development officials are embarking on a groundbreaking demonstration project for smart-grid, net zero energy buildings called the GridSTAR Center — a Smart Energy Campus initiative at The Navy Yard in Philadelphia. Spearheaded by Penn State with support from the U.S. Department of Energy, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), the GridSTAR Net Zero Energy Demonstration Structure is the first phase of the GridSTAR Center.
