A month after his exit as President of the Warner Bros Television Group, Bruce Rosenblum has joined Legendary Entertainment as President of newly launched Legendary Television and Digital Media. In his role, Rosenblum will help set up a business model for Legendary’s expansion into television and digital as it plans to produce programming across linear and non-linear “on-demand” platforms globally and pursue global digital distribution of its content for broadband, mobile and emerging technologies. The division will function autonomously, without the backing of a studio as Legendary, a well-capitalized company valued at $3 billion, mulls its next move as its partnership with Warner Bros on the feature side is up at the end of the year.
This represents a much bigger and more ambitious foray into television than Legendary’s first entry into the space in 2011, when the company launched a TV division in conjunction with a development/production deal at Warner Bros Television, the TV studio which was under Rosenblum’s purview. A year and a half later, Legendary opted to proactively end the deal and dissolve the TV division headed by Jeremy Elice, with sources citing Legendary management’s reservations towards the traditional TV development model, which they felt was not for the company, which tends to produce content in non-traditional ways. At the time, Legendary did not shut the door completely and indicated it still intended to enter the TV space, which it is now doing in a major way. I hear Legendary had been looking for the right executive to lead their ambitious expansion in the TV and digital arenas and began talking to Rosenblum when he became available. “Bruce has an outstanding track record in the business, and he will be instantly additive to the team in our efforts to continue to make world-class content for consumers, however and wherever they access that content,” said Legendary’s founder and CEO Thomas Tull, to whom Rosenblum will report.
Rosenblum brings to Legendary nearly three decades of executive experience. Meanwhile, Legendary is coming off yet another tentpole success with the huge opening for Man Of Steel this past weekend.

WB is going to LOOOVE this
Good move for Bruce. I thought he might wait out Bob Greenblatt being let go, but I can understand taking a job with a company flush with capital.
Why would NBC hire him? CW is a disaster. He is not creative. They already have lawyers.
As sure a sign as any that WB and Legendary are getting ready to split.
Although others might be shocked by this announcement, I think it’s a great fit.
With television — obviously cable and on-demand, not network — having become something of a go-to destination for courageous filmmakers and brave writers, the pairing of Mr. Rosenblum, considered to be one of the most innovative in the business, and Legendary, a company becoming, pardon the groan-worthy pun, legendary — hey, I warned you — for their willingness to offer cutting-edge content in movies I’ve always thought of as “not your average tentpole”, this partnership has a great deal of potential.
This will be something worth keeping my eye on.
Ha! Ain’t that a black eye for WB. Now that’s the second major Exec they kicked to the cub only to land back on his feet. With Legendary deep with Hedge Fund cap, I give it a few more years before they buy the lot outright.
Great, great hire! Kevin Tsujiahara will realize how foolish his decision was when Bruce takes Legendary to the next level!
Actually, I think the “foolish” decision on sealing Rosenblum’s fate with WB (not Tsujihara’s call!) lies with TW ceo Jeff Bewkes in leaving a true VETERAN Hollywood exec and creative like Rosenblum no choice but to leave the fold. In the end, Legendary’s quick move to court Rosenblum (IMHO) comes off as opportunistically brilliant and lends the company’s renewed TV/new media production efforts an instant air of CREDIBILITY.
What Rosenblum brings in is decades of understanding series financing (or should I say, “deficit financing,” in most cases when it comes to series development!) and knowing the intricacies of business/financial models and creative community CONNECTIONS to really re-shape Legendary’s TV production, digital media, on-demand and streaming video business models. In other words, Rosenblum knows all of the ins-and-outs of how to better minimize Legendary’s front-end exposure financially and maximizing first-run and back-end revenue-making opportunities in a wide variety of electronic media revenue streams — not to mention the visibility Rosenblum will give them with domestic and international co-prod and distribution partners!
Truly, I think bringing in Rosenblum should quickly elevate Legendary into becoming a major TV/new media studio player, possibly something on par with an independent studios like Lionsgate and Sony — including whether or not Warner Bros. renews with them as a co-production/distribution partner in TV and film??!! This is no BS here, Rosenblum has the kind muscle and brains to make Legendary a standalone indie player if they should indeed be cutting the cord with Warner Bros. Go Bruce, go!!!!
Amazing. Awesome for Bruce, awesome for Legendary. Win-win.
They got an amazing exec…..
So, does this mean that Bruce’s new office will be on the WB lot?
His office will be on the Universal lot.
I am thrilled for Bruce. I have known him since he came to Warner Bros and did the incorporation of the WB Channel. I bow to Legendary for the grab, they were smart, and they got the perfect fit. Expanding job for Bruce and a lot of in side knowledge for Legendary. I think they will be going no where but up now.
God I miss the WB Frog
Me too, Professor Falken! There was nobody else better than Michigan J. Frog to build a BRAND IDENTITY for the late, great WB Network — they (Rosenblum, Jamie Kellner, Jed Petrick, Garth Ancier, Susanne Daniels and Jordan Levin) the “Dream Team” of truly entrepreneurial “startup network TV prorammers and operators!” (Certainly, the subsequent incarnation CW Network under CBS’s control LACKS any of that innovative spirit!)
Another great reason to believe Rosenblum will bring some luster and instant street cred for Legendary TV…and maybe he can bring back Michigan J. Frog??!!
Couldn’t happen to a better guy and savvy exec. WB loss is innovative Legendary’s gain. Can’t wait to see the next phase. Touché’ Bruce!..and the best of everything coming your way.
Bruce Rosenblum is one of the most low-key, cool-headed studio executives since…well, since his former WB boss Bob Daly. And it would have to mean that Tull has ego and temperament bigger than, say a Barry Diller or Leslie Moonves — please believe me, Rosenblum could handle the heat in their’s and any other titanic Hollywood/NY exec egos’ kitchens. I’m not sure if people understand how much of a cool, under-the-radar operator Rosenblum is!!!??? But I have to admit I don’t know much about Tull, yet I’m guessing his Hollywood profile and ego is nowhere as storied as the aforementioned studio honchos!
Put it this way, it’s like one poster said they thought Rosenblum would take NBC Entertainment Chairman/Elitist Hermit Bob Greenblatt’s job, but Bruce’s acceptance of the presidency at Legendary TV is somewhat more akin to joining an “entrepreneurial startup” TV/new media operation. It says something to me that Rosenblum likes to operate with management and creative freedom and does NOT have a BIG enough EGO to only take (demand?) a studio or media conglomerate Chairman/CEO job. He’s really jumping into this Legendary gig for the freedom of creating a TV/new media structure according to his vision and is in it for the CHALLENGE! Cheers to Rosenblum for “sowing his creative oats” with this deal!
