The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) developed the MyHospitals website through 2010 in consultation with states and territories. Australian Health Ministers agreed the content of the initial release of the website which was launched in December 2010.

On 13 February 2011, the Council of Australian Governments agreed that the MyHospitals website would continue to report information on the performance of individual hospitals and Local Hospital Networks, and that the information on the website would be enhanced and expanded over time.

Role of the Steering Committee

The MyHospitals Development Steering Committee has been established to assist Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) consider proposed developments to the MyHospitals website.

The Steering Committee operates under the Cross-jurisdictional Governance Framework for the Further Development of the MyHospitals Website (the Framework) agreed by Australian Health Ministers' Conference (AHMC) on 12 November 2010.

In accordance with the Framework, the Steering Committee will:

  1. note minor improvements and routine data updates implemented by the AIHW;
  2. approve other improvements where this is consistent with the Framework; and
  3. provide advice to AHMC on significant additions requiring the agreement of Health Ministers.

The Steering Committee will provide a forum for the jurisdictions and the private hospital sector to suggest improvements or upgrades to the MyHospitals website.  The Steering Committee may also respond to suggestions or requests made by Council of Australian Governments (COAG), the National Health Performance Authority (NHPA) and other relevant bodies.
