Academy Award nominee Stallone and former California Governor Schwarzenegger have, of course, traded quips in both installments of the former's The Expendables franchise. Schwarzenegger will once again quote decades-old catchphrases with an appearance in The Expendables 3, currently in production.
His role as Trench in those movies is little more than winking cameo stuff, but in Escape Plan, Schwarzenegger is the second lead. Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, a man who makes his living exposing security holes by
breaking out of prisons all over the world. When he ends up in an
experimental futuristic jail of his own design, though, Breslin is the
victim of a set-up, abandoned among the prison population. To break
out, Breslin teams up with a charismatic inmate (THIS GUY) who will help him find
his mysterious enemy and regain his freedom.

Director Mikael Hafstrom isn't an old hand at action, but is instead best known for spooky horror tales 1408 and The Rite. Maybe that's why the guards in this slick future prison sport such creepy masks.
Obviously, no movie can consist of only Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Hafstrom has put together an eclectic group of thespians to surround the stars, from Amy Ryan to Vincent D'Onofrio, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Jim Caviezel, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill, and Faran Tahir.
Escape Plan is scheduled to open nationwide on October 18th.
Here's the official synopsis and poster:
Escape Plan follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills. But all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.
Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.
