Democratic activist, father of two children Leanid Navitski was sentenced today to 10 nights of arrest by the Partisansky district court of Minsk. The activist was detained 21 September on a charge of organization of the European March. After the detention, 100 flags of the European Union and informational materials with the symbols of Europe were confiscated. “I was leaving my flat when the people in civvies came to me. They introduced themselves as the KGB agents and enter the flat under pretence of looking for illegal inhabitants. They call for a district militia officer, a group of criminalists, witnesses. They didn’t give a copy of the report”, - Leanid Navitski said in the court-room.
Young activists Vital Tsihanovich and Alina Hladkaya are sentenced to 15 and 7 days of arrest respectively by the court of Partyzanski district of Minsk. Two buses with visitors of the rock-festival “Right to Be Free” which was to start 22 August in Lutsk, a Ukrainian city, were detained today in the night near Minsk. One bus was detained near town Dziarzhynsk, the other – near Stoubtsy. Officers of the State Road Inspection stopped buses under the pretext of the supposed speed-limit breaking by the drivers. There were approximately 40 people in each bus.
One more criminal case is brought before the court against the political prisoner, leader of “Malady Front” (Young Front) Zmitser Dashkevich. He is indicted of refusal to attest, Article 402 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. As it became known to the pressroom of Charter’97, Zmitser Dashkevich wrote about this in his letter to his friends. According to Zmitser Dashkevich, investigators of Shklou District Interior Department demanded Dashkevich to attest against a young activist Ivan Shyla, who was accused of “activity on behalf of an unregistered organization”.

Around five thousand people participated in the rock festival ”Right to Be Free” organized by Belarusians in the Ukrainian town Lutsk 22 September. The festival was accompanied by hardships: buses with the festival guests were detained at the exit from Belarus by the special regiment, thus the people were made to hitchhike or travel by electric train. It took the musicians hours to pass the customs and boarder guard control. But the festival was held and struck its target.

Minsk expects Moscow to decide on giving Belarus a stabilization loan, Prime Minister Syarhey Sidorski told reporters while touring the Minsk region on September 20. He noted that the presidents of Belarus and Russia had reached an agreement on such a loan.
