by Andrew Hignell - Archivist to Glamorgan CCC

These pages tell the fascinating history of St.Helen`s, Swansea - a ground steeped in sporting history. The home of Swansea Cricket and Football Club since the 1870`s, the western half of the ground has staged many famous rugby matches, including Welsh internationals, whilst the eastern side has been the venue for many historic cricketing feats, including those by Sir Gary Sobers, who in 1968 became the first player in cricket history to hit six sixes in an over. It was also at Swansea where Glamorgan beat the Australian tourists on consecutive tours in 1964 and 1968, as well as defeating the South Africans in 1951 after the tourists had suffered a dramatic collapse after tea.
