1 hour ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Earlier this week it was reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd were the frontrunners to suit up as Marvel's pint-sized superhero "Ant-Man" for director Edgar Wright. However, Gordon-Levitt wants to shrink his half of the rumor before it gets too big.  "There is always a lot of rumors around these projects and so far it is still only discussions," J.G.L. explained to Huffington Post France. "I am always very transparent when it comes to my role and my career. I’m usually the first to speak and communicate with my fans if something happens. If you hear nothing from me, they are just rumors." It's »

’12 Years’ Writer Approached the Script Like a ‘Restoration Project’

20 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The cast and filmmakers behind Steve McQueen‘s “12 Years a Slave” settled into the Directors Guild Oct. 14 to present the story of Solomon Northup, whose harrowing autobiography — a bestseller during the 19th Century — was the basis of the film. But Chiwetel Ejiofor, who deftly portrays Northup’s journey through bondage, hesitated before accepting the role.

“[Steve] called me up and he said he was going to send me the script and I was excited because I had been a fan of his for ages,” Ejiofor said. “After I read the script I had to take a bit of pause because there was a lot of responsibility.”

“You have these feelings as an actor, you hope for a great part and when it comes sometimes, it is a strange reaction, and you think, ‘Can I do this?’ I don’t want to go out there and make a mess of it.”

Batman-Superman Movie to Begin Shooting This Weekend

21 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Warner Bros. is getting an early star on the untitled Batman-Superman movie and reportedly will shoot part of the film this weekend on the East Los Angeles College Campus.

The scene revolves around game played between Gotham University and Metropolis State College. Latino Review first noticed the news, which appeared in the East Los Angeles College Campus News.

Helmed by Zack Snyder, the film seems to already pay homage to Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” which also featured a major set piece at a football stadium (Warner Bros. used the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Heinz Field).

The film is technically still in pre-production, as a cast is being assembled and its two stars, Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, are currently shooting movies and will not be done until the end of the year. These shoots are probably being done to take advantage of the football season, with the crew revisiting »

Film Review: ‘The Secret Lives of Dorks’

31 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Winning performances by a number of fresh-faced newcomers are almost but not quite enough to recommend “The Secret Lives of Dorks,” a fitfully amusing, more often shrill and overstated teen comedy that, like its dweeby protagonist, tries too hard to impress. Cobbled together from bits of “Sixteen Candles,” “Clueless,” et al., director Salome Breziner’s familiar tale of high-school haves and have-nots isn’t without its charms, though it never attains the depth of feeling or memorable characterizations that distinguished such standout recent examples of the genre as “Superbad” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Pic made a brief appearance in theaters last month, then quickly cut class, but could be rediscovered years from now as an early resume-builder for some of its cast.

Like many of its kind, “Secret Lives” revolves around the unrequited, thinly disguised crush of a four-eyed, pimply-faced social untouchable for the prettiest and most popular cheerleader in school. »

Avril Lavigne's ghostly video for 'Let Me Go' with Chad Kroeger: Watch

44 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Avril Lavigne and husband Chad Kroeger have a love that spans generations, proving that true love never dies even if those involved end the relationship. In this poignant video for “Let Me Go,” Lavigne, who may or may not be a ghost, sits in her lovely mansion, alone, playing the sad love song. She is young and beautiful. A much-older handyman, raking leaves off of concrete (?) outside the estate, enters, picks up a guitar and, somehow, transforms into the younger, current day Kroeger. Lavigne, who usually looks like she’d rather be drawn and quartered than be in a music video, »

Dave Eggers Deserves a ‘Smile’ for Getting the Internet Wrong in The Circle

46 minutes ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The danger of writing a book about the Internet is that you’re writing a book about the Internet, thereby invoking the myriad voices and possible opinions contained within this giant, amorphous collective —  whether they agree with you or not. If that book is a work of fiction based enough in the familiar to feel just on the terrifying edge of possible, you can be sure that the Internet will not fail to correct you with regards to the fictionalized world contained in your book. Such has been the case with Dave Eggers's new novel, The Circle, which addresses privacy, democracy, and humanity in a time of ever-encroaching digital life. The Circle, the “world’s most powerful Internet company” from which the book takes its name, is a kind of hybrid Facebook-Google-Twitter-Amazon Silicon Valley tech company of the future, complete with a hoodie-wearing guru leader and a dreamy, sprawling campus that features, »

Is there a better name for a film about a big ass spider than Big Ass Spider!? We think not! But director Mike Mendez (The Gravedancers) says his self-explanatory creature feature, which hits select cinemas on Oct. 18 and will also be available on VOD, was almost released under a far-less-memorable moniker.
