Your privacy and security is very important to Compassion in World Farming, and Compassion complies fully with the Data Protection Act 1998.

What information will Compassion in World Farming collect about me?

When you interact with Compassion (for example, to make a donation, sign a petition or opt-in to receive emails from us), we may receive and retain personal information about you. This can consist of information such as your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, bank account details to process donations and whether or not you are a UK tax payer so that we can claim gift aid.

By submitting your details, you enable Compassion (and where applicable any sub-contractors we may use) to campaign for improvements in the lives of farm animals, raise funds and provide you with the services or information you select. How will Compassion in World Farming use the information you collect about me?

It is Compassion’s policy never to pass on your personal details to other organisations for their use, except when we have your express permission or when the law requires it. We may use your personal information in the following ways:

  • to respond to any correspondence you enter into with us;
  • for "service administration purposes" – which means processing, and contacting you about, any donations you have made, or providing you with information you have signed up for;
  • for campaigning purposes – where you have signed a petition or otherwise taken action, your details may be sent to the campaign target, or an email sent on your behalf, as indicated when you took action;
  • for internal record keeping;
  • for research into ways we can improve our campaigning, fundraising and our service to supporters. Where this research requires your direct involvement, participation will always be optional;
  • for marketing (campaigning and fundraising) purposes – We will only contact you for marketing purposes by email or other electronic means if you have agreed to be contacted in this way or, where you have made a donation by text, you have not opted out of receiving further information. We may contact you by post or telephone about our work unless you have told us that you do not wish to be contacted in this way.

When you supply us with personal information we will assume that you are happy with the above uses of this information unless otherwise advised.
