The ill-health of John McVie has forced legendary rockers Fleetwood Mac to cancel their coming tour of Australia.

The iconic rock band was due to play two shows at Perth Arena on November 22 and 23, which were both almost sold out.

But bassist McVie, a founding member of the group, is set to undergo cancer treatment at the time of the tour.

“We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates,” a statement was posted on the groups facebook page this afternoon.

“We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best.”

The group, which also features in its current form Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, have already toured Europe and the US successfully this year.

Promoter Live Nation wished McVie a “full and speedy recovery”, saying they “regret the disappointment that this announcement will cause for the band’s multitude of Australian fans”.

Refunds will be available to all ticket holders from Monday, October 28, at the point of purchase. Tickets booked online or by phone will be refunded automatically.
