We launched the new look site on 7th May, here are a few notes to help you find your way around and also to highlight a number of new features.
Site Structure
Primarily the site now has three channels, which are also colour
coded as before:
The Stats channel (green), which incorporates all competition stats.
This includes the League, Cup, International and Database sections from
the old site.
The Teams channel (blue), which remains the same as the old site and
includes micro sites for every club and international team in our
database.
The Odds channel (orange), which now combines the separate Betting and
Ratings sections from the old site, providing one integrated place for
odds comparison and our forecasts.
Page URLs
All of our sites URLs have changed to make them more readily readable and reflect the navigation through the site. All old URLs will automatically map to the new ones but you should endeavour to update them where possible. We will remove this automatic forwarding after a few months so that it gives a warning.
Menus
Over time our menus had become much cluttered so we have opted to separate them into three distinct dropdown menus, one for each channel. The home pages also share the Stats menu.
As before, the menu also indicates when you are currently viewing information to a particular competition or team. When this is the case, the top menu item becomes a larger box containing the details of the country, name and year and has a dropdown of all pages that relate specifically to that competition or team. The remainder of the menu then follows underneath.
Navigation Bar
Our navigation bar (just above the menu), now has buttons for Home, and the three channels, Stats, Teams and Odds plus some additional useful links. The main bar has not changed, it still shows your path through the site and each element can be clicked on to go back up the hierarchy. In addition, we have included the ‘Related’ links, which provide cross-channel links so for instance you can switch from English Premier League stats to odds with a single click.
User Preferences
These are now in a box at the top right hand side of the page and now include Handicap preferences, which allows you to choose between Decimal (i.e. -0.25) and Split (i.e. 0,-0,5) for Asian Handicaps. Also, since the new site also features Exchange odds, there is the ability to configure you exchange rates for each exchange and then choose whether or not these are included in odds displays by checking the commission box. These commission calculations apply to both back and lay odds.
Page Help
Most pages on the old site had a brief description of the page. These have now been replaced by popup help and information where you see the I symbol. We will add others based on feedback over time. All column headings also show a brief description when you hover over them, as before.
Stats Channel
We have included all competition stats that were on the original site and have added a few new ones. The League Table now allows you to select teams and perform either current or historic comparisons between the selected teams. The Custom Table has been enhanced to allow you to perform even more of your own analysis.
The Results and Fixtures pages now contain a calendar for navigation and yes it does really go back to 1871! Hover over the dates to see how many matches there are. As before, League Tables can be recalled after any match date, either from the results or from the League Table page. The Results Grid can now be sorted on a number of criteria including position so that you analyse results distribution.
Teams Channel
The team micro sites have been restructured but contain all of the information that we provided before. We have changed the home pages to include the league stats box which summarises most of the important league stats and can now be viewed as averages/percentages or absolute values with one click! These stats boxes are now consistent with all comparisons from any League Tables and also from the Odds display when comparing teams in a match. Comparison from the team League Table pages, automatically includes the current team in the selections.
As before the micro sites go through ever season for each team and we have included a dropdown of past years at the top of each page and also a full list under the Past Seasons/History page. We have also included former names of teams in the page header during years when they had another name!
Odds Channel
As mentioned, the Odds channel now incorporates all of our bookmaker odds comparison and ratings pages. Firstly, we have added the three betting exchanges to the bookmakers and spread betting firms that were already included on the site and the number is set to expand ever more over the forthcoming months. There are now six different odds grid views available, each selected by the links on bar above each grid. Of these the All, Best and Spreads views are similar to before although we also now show odds movements on the All Odds view. The Stats have been enhanced and are now consistent with other comparison pages. The two new views are related to Betting exchanges:
Exchange view shows the back and lay depth of each exchange.
Exchange+ consolidates this information so that you can view the combined depth and of course factor in commission with your user preferences.
The ratings are available under the main menu which breaks down into country and league. We have retained the Match Odds, Asian Handicap and Spread Betting coupons – feedback welcome on whether or not others would prove useful.
Feedback
Well that’s just some of the main changes, many of which were based
on feedback we received - so keep the feedback
coming!
